Magnesia‑ferrite (MgO‑Fe₂O₃) spinel brick is the leading chromium‑free solution. It provides excellent coating adhesion, high thermal shock resistance and superior alkali corrosion protection.
Vertical kilns require zone‑specific lining: fireclay or low‑creep high‑alumina in preheating, high‑alumina (≥65% Al₂O₃) or mullite in calcining, and abrasion‑resistant SiC castable in the cooling zone.
Silicon carbide (SiC) castable or phosphate‑bonded high‑alumina brick offers outstanding abrasion resistance under high‑velocity dust.
Regular inspection of the calcining zone, using low‑porosity high‑alumina brick, and applying gunning mixes for minor repairs. Uniform feed and avoiding sudden temperature changes are critical.
